Luigi Cuomo

Biography

Luigi Cuomo was born in Avellino in 1986. In 2010 he graduated in “Intercultural Communication”, an anthropological accademic course at the University of Turin. He began to take an interest in storytelling through images, placing his gaze on the suburban Turin realities, at first through photographic works and then through videos. During his university years he attended Directing and Editing courses and became more and more interested in the documentary genre. In 2012 he moved to L’Aquila where he attended Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia – Sede Abruzzo. In his graduation essay, Cuomo decided to deal with a world that attracted and intrigued him: the world of the circus. “Costellazioni” is the title of his documentary, a story about the ordinary and extraordinary life of three circus artists outside the circus track. “Costellazioni” had its world premiere at “Visions du Réel” in Switzerland before touring festivals around the world. Among the various screenings, the documentary was shown inside the National Gallery of Art in Washington. It won the best documentary award and the Avanti! award at the Napoli Film Festival. In 2017 Cuomo was on the set of Vincenzo Marra’s film “Equilibrium” as assistant director. The film was presented at the Venice Days during the 74th Venice International Film Festival. In 2019 he signed the editing of the docufilm “La Piazza della mia città – Lo Stato Sociale” by Paolo Santamaria, which was premiered at the “Biografilm Festival 2019”.
